History of Leonardo da Vinci No 13

The earliest building on this site is from the Roman period, built in II century. It was a rich dwelling with a patio and mural decoration, consisting of a row of panels, one of which depicts a palm tree on a white background, framed with a brown frame. The building was destroyed in the capture of the city by the Goths in 251, and among its burned remains were found the charred skeletons of its inhabitants, as well as expensive objects, including a chariot applique with an image of the god Serapis and a treasure of 593 silver coins.

At the beginning of IV A large, representative building was erected here again. From it was explored the reception hall, decorated with a floor mosaic and murals with multicolored geometric motifs. It was also destroyed in a fire at the beginning of the V A century, probably during one of the Hunnic invasions of Thrace.

Life here continued in the Middle Ages, and in this place were found the remains of houses with deep cellars of XI – the beginning of XIII century.
